Hong Kong, 28 January 2022 – Ashbury, the Asia-focused strategic communications firm for the financial sector, is delighted to announce two new appointments in Hong Kong as its portfolio of clients grows.

Ellin Choy joins as an Associate Director in Ashbury’s Advisory team, where she will work closely with Director of Advisory Noel Cheung. Ellin was previously the Programme Lead for Accenture’s FinTech Innovation Lab in Asia Pacific. In this role, she managed relationships with over 60 partners and provided counsel and advice to participating fintechs. Before Accenture, Ellin spent six years with Burson-Marsteller. She is a graduate of the University of New South Wales and the London School of Fashion.

Jason Wincuinas becomes an Associate Director and Senior Writer and Editor, working alongside Director of Content Steve Garton. Jason joins from Economist Impact, previously known as the Economist Intelligence Unit, where he had been a Senior Editor since 2018. He has worked extensively with financial clients on research-driven projects focused on technology and ESG. Jason’s previous roles include Managing Editor of Campaign Asia Pacific and Financial Editor at CLSA; he has also worked extensively as a freelance journalist. He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

“Ellin and Jason are both talented individuals who bring valuable skills and experience to our clients across our advisory and content offerings,” said Adam Harper, Managing Director of Ashbury. “As Ashbury celebrates its second anniversary, our ability to attract colleagues of this calibre reflects our strong momentum and the way that our proposition resonates with clients.”

New clients and business growth

In the last few months, Ashbury has been retained by Houlihan Lokey, a leading global independent investment bank; signed a new contract with Episode Six, a payments technology firm; and been retained by Eventus Systems, the global leader in multi-asset class trade surveillance, market risk and transaction monitoring systems.

Adam founded Ashbury in January 2020 with the vision of integrating original content creation and classic PR, as well as building a team with deep financial sector experience. PRovoke named the firm Asia-Pacific New Consultancy of the year in 2021, recognising its differentiated proposition and strong growth. Ashbury’s revenue grew by four times in 2021 versus 2020 and the firm now serves more than 20 active clients. It also moved into new, dedicated offices in Hong Kong’s Central district in December 2021.

With the arrival of Ellin and Jason, the team has expanded to seven people and continues to grow: Ashbury is now advertising for an Associate in its Advisory team and is open to applications at all levels from talented Hong Kong-based communications and content professionals with financial experience.

“Our team thinks and operates like a top financial institution’s in-house communications team while thriving on the diverse challenges of a client portfolio that spans from global banks to digital asset ventures,” added Adam. “We have a flat structure, flexible working practices and a shared commitment to outperforming for our clients. If you’ve been working in-house and are ready for a different challenge but don’t want to join a big agency, we’d like to hear from you.”

To mark its second anniversary, Ashbury has also donated a total of HKD50,000 to two Hong Kong-based charities: ImpactHK and the Hong Kong Cancer Fund. These donations build on Ashbury’s 2021 donation to Caritas Hong Kong and reflect the team’s commitment to supporting those who face hardship in the local community.
